JK the Kid

Introducing JK the Kid – a Nashville-based dynamic musical duo united by their passion for crafting heartfelt indie folk music and watching coming-of-age movies.

Kate Cosentino, a native of Kansas City, and Jeff Toth, representing South Jersey, first crossed paths amidst the vibrant songwriting program at Belmont University. The two became quick friends and started writing together as often as they could.

Kate's musical journey is deeply rooted in pop and jazz influences, yet her collaboration with Jeff re-introduced her to the rich tapestry of indie folk, a genre she resonated with from her childhood. With Jeff's penchant for rustic, earthy folk tones and Kate's arranging prowess and witty lyricism, the duo found a perfect synergy, blending their styles into a harmonious fusion.

Their mutual admiration for artists like Hippocampus and Hozier, coupled with a shared affection for coming-of-age cinema, served as catalysts for their creative partnership. Inspired by the evocative narratives of films like "Moonrise Kingdom" and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," they embarked on a musical journey to capture the essence of that introspective, nostalgic sound.

Jeff Toth brings a wealth of experience to the table as both a producer and songwriter. Jeff quickly made his mark on Nashville's indie scene, seamlessly blending pop-rock elements with rustic folk influences. His versatile skill set extends beyond performance, as he devotes his time to music production under Roxwood Music.

On the other hand, Kate Cosentino's artistry has not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by her stint on NBC's "The Voice" and her active presence on social media platforms, where she has garnered a dedicated following. Her ability to infuse soulful melodies with introspective lyricism adds depth and authenticity to the duo's repertoire.

Together, JK the Kid offers audiences a captivating musical experience, bridging the gap between contemporary pop and timeless folk traditions. With their distinctive sound and shared passion for storytelling, they continue to enchant listeners with their evocative melodies and poignant lyrics, solidifying their place in the vibrant landscape of indie music.

The two opened for other Belmont Alumni band Judah and the Lion in fall of 2024 at the Uptown Theatre in Kansas City.
